Hello

To end 2023 on a high note we're sharing a post from our Paraplanning Team Manager, Jane, who recently achieved the prestigious Fellowship of the Personal Finance Society. We're very proud of Jane for her achievement, especially as she's had some challenges to handle along the way. You can read about it in our main post.

We strongly encourage professional development by our team members as part of our mission to deliver the highest quality advice to our clients. We've had some fantastic achievements in our Team this year, with many newly gained qualifications and a lot of continued learning and development right across the business. We'll tell you more about who and what in the new year, but we wanted to acknowledge everyone's commitment to delivering the best possible service for you.

We didn't want to leave you high and dry in this week between Christmas and New Year! So, if you're looking for something peaceful to do we've shared a roundup of our top blogs this year. If you'd like to read more you can see the whole blog catalogue on our website www.chestertonhouse.co.uk/blog.

When I'm 64, what should I do with the rest of my life?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me,

When I'm sixty-four?

This verse from the famous Beatles song captures the youthful view of retirement, but in the 57 years since it was written it seems that 64-year olds are younger than they ever were. What happens if you aren't ready to retire at 64? Andy explores the answer in this post.

Why we won't take you too seriously

I've worked with a coach, John Dashfield, for many years and he kindly sent me a copy of Steve Chandler's book 'Death Wish'. In it, Steve describes his journey through addiction to 'a glorious life'. Whether you consider yourself an addict or not, it's an interesting read.

Andy reflects on whether we take life a little too on the serious side.

Hooray! It's a bear market. Why market declines are to be welcomed

Since December 2021, our clients investment portfolios have generally fallen in value by 15-20% from their previous highest point as at the time of writing. This is what investors call a 'bear market'. Many people see this as a worrying time, however we have a different take on it. Read our post to find out why.
